How to Install the Workstatus Windows Visible App

Overview

This document provides step-by-step instructions for downloading, installing, signing in to, and starting the Workstatus Windows Visible App.

Step 1: Download the Application

• Download the application : Download Windows Visible App.

Step 2: Install the Applications

First, install the application by double-clicking the file, or right-click the application and select ‘Run as Administrator’. Then, follow the on-screen installation instructions

Step 4: Login to the Application

• Once installation is complete, open the application.
• Enter your username and password.
• After login, the application will appear in the bottom-right corner (system tray).

Step 5: Start Tracking

• Wait for 5 sec then Click on Select Project.
• The assigned project list will open.
• Click on the project on which you want to run the tracker.
• Once you select a project, the assigned task list will open.
• If you want to run the tracker on a specific task, select the task.
• If not, directly click on the Start Timer button.

Step 6: Open App

• After the system restarts, open the application.
• User need to search Workstatus Desktop app in application.
• User can pin Workstatus app in taskbar
• User can also open app from bottom right corner where all hiden app icon is present

Step 7: Whitelist the Workstatus App After Installation

After installing the Workstatus Windows Visible App, check whether the user's system has any antivirus or Windows security software enabled.
Antivirus or Windows security features may block or terminate Workstatus processes. If Workstatus is blocked, add the Workstatus application or installation folder to the security software's Exclusion / Whitelist / Allow List.

7.1 Whitelist the Workstatus App in Windows Defender After Installation

Overview

After installing the Workstatus Windows Visible App, Windows Defender or another antivirus application may block or terminate Workstatus processes. To prevent this, add the Workstatus installation folder to the Microsoft Defender Antivirus exclusion list.

Microsoft recommends adding exclusions only for trusted applications because excluded files or folders are not scanned by Defender's real-time protection.

Prerequisites

• Windows 10 or Windows 11
• Workstatus Windows Visible App installed
• Administrator access to the system

Step 1: Open Windows Security

• Click Start.
• Search for Windows Security.
• Open Windows Security.

Step 2: Open Virus & Threat Protection

• Select Virus & threat protection.
• Under Virus & threat protection settings, click Manage settings.

Step 3: Add Workstatus to Exclusions

• Scroll down to Exclusions.
• Click Add or remove exclusions.
• Click Add an exclusion.
• Select Folder.
• Select the Workstatus installation folder.

For example: C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Workstatus

Click Select Folder to add the Workstatus folder to the exclusion list.
Microsoft supports exclusions for specific files, folders, file types, or processes.

Step 4: Restart Workstatus

After adding the exclusion:

• Close the Workstatus application.
• Start Workstatus again.
• Log in if required.
• Start the timer.
• Verify that the application status changes to Tracking.

Step 5: Verify Workstatus

Confirm the following:

• Workstatus remains running without being terminated.
• Timer starts successfully.
• Activity is captured.
• Screenshots are captured according to the configured settings.
• Data is synced successfully with the Workstatus server.

If Workstatus Was Already Blocked

If Windows Defender has already blocked or quarantined a Workstatus file:

• Open Windows Security.
• Go to Virus & threat protection.
• Select Protection history.
• Locate the Workstatus detection.
• Review the detection carefully.
• If the file is confirmed to be a trusted Workstatus component, follow the appropriate Windows Security option to allow or restore it.
• Add the Workstatus installation folder to the exclusions list.
• Restart the Workstatus application.

Microsoft recommends reviewing a detected file before allowing or restoring it and only allowing software that you trust.

Important Note

If the system has another antivirus application installed, that antivirus may be responsible for terminating Workstatus instead of Microsoft Defender. Windows Security notes that when another antivirus is active, Microsoft Defender Antivirus may automatically be disabled.
In that case, add the Workstatus installation folder to the active antivirus application's exclusion/whitelist as well.

7.2 How to Disable Smart App Control in Windows 11

Overview

Smart App Control is a Windows 11 security feature that helps block untrusted or potentially harmful applications. In some cases, it may prevent a legitimate application from running if Windows cannot establish that the application is trusted.
If Smart App Control is blocking the Workstatus Windows Visible App during installation or execution, follow the steps below to disable it.

Important: Disabling Smart App Control reduces the protection provided by this Windows security feature. Disable it only when required for troubleshooting or installation of trusted software.

Prerequisites

• Windows 11
• Administrator access to the system
• Workstatus Windows Visible App installer

Click Start.Step 1: Open Windows Security

• Search for Windows Security.
• Open Windows Security.

Step 2: Open App & Browser Control

• Select App & browser control.
• Under Smart App Control, select Smart App Control settings.

Step 3: Disable Smart App Control

• Locate the Smart App Control setting.
• Select Off.
• Confirm the action if Windows displays a confirmation message.

Smart App Control has three modes: Evaluation, On, and Off. Selecting Off disables Smart App Control.

Step 4: Install Workstatus

• After Smart App Control has been disabled:
• Run the Workstatus Windows Visible App installer.
• Complete the installation.
• Launch the Workstatus application.
• Log in to your Workstatus account.
• Start the timer.
• Verify that the application changes to Tracking.

Step 5: Verify the Workstatus App

• After installation, verify:
• Workstatus launches successfully.
• The application is not blocked by Windows.
• Timer starts successfully.
• Activity is captured.
• Screenshots are captured according to the configured settings.
• Data is synchronized with the Workstatus server.

Important: Smart App Control Cannot Exclude Individual Apps

Unlike some antivirus exclusions, Smart App Control does not provide an option to allow one specific application while keeping Smart App Control enabled. Microsoft states that there is currently no per-app bypass for Smart App Control.
Therefore, if Smart App Control is blocking a trusted Workstatus application, the available approach is to disable Smart App Control or use a properly digitally signed application.

Troubleshooting

Smart App Control option is not available

• Smart App Control is a Windows 11 feature and is not available in Windows 10.
• If the Smart App Control section is not displayed, check:
• Windows Security → App & browser control

Workstatus is still blocked after disabling Smart App Control

Smart App Control works alongside Microsoft Defender and other antivirus software.
If Workstatus is still being blocked:

• Check Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history.
• Check whether Microsoft Defender has blocked or quarantined a Workstatus file.
• Add the Workstatus installation folder to the antivirus exclusion list if appropriate.
• If another antivirus is installed, add Workstatus to that antivirus application's exclusion list as well.

Recommended Installation Flow

Disable Smart App Control (if it blocks installation) → Install Workstatus Visible App → Add Workstatus to Antivirus Exclusions if required → Launch Workstatus → Start Timer → Verify Tracking, Activity, Screenshots, and Data Sync

Security Recommendation
After troubleshooting, keep Windows security protections enabled whenever possible. If the Workstatus application is being blocked because it is not recognized as trusted, using a properly digitally signed application is preferable to permanently disabling security protections.
