How to Change a Shift in Workstatus
How to Change a Shift in Workstatus
1. Overview
The Shift Management feature in Workstatus allows organization owners and administrators to assign or change shifts for individual employees or multiple employees on a given day. Any shift changes made will take effect the following day.
By default, all existing members are assigned to the General Shift. If an organization wants to assign employees to different shifts based on their working hours and time zones, the required shifts must be created before assigning them.
Important Notes:
- Create the required shift with the appropriate shift timings and time zone before assigning it to employees.
- Shift changes take effect from the next business day.
- The existing shift remains effective for the current business day.
- Only one shift change can be scheduled for a member at a time. A new change cannot be scheduled until the existing shift change takes effect.
2. Prerequisites
Before changing a member's shift, ensure that:
- You are logged in to Workstatus using an Admin or Owner account.
- The required shift has already been created under Settings → Schedules & Time Off → Shift Management.
- The shift has the correct start time, end time, and time zone.

- Verify the effective dates and shift details for the selected employees.
5. Understanding Shift Effective Dates
When a shift change is confirmed, Workstatus maintains the current shift for the current business day and schedules the new shift for the next business day.
For example:
Field | Example |
|---|---|
Current Shift | General Shift |
New Shift | US Evening Shift |
Change Confirmed On | 22 October 2026 |
Current Shift Effective Until | 22 October 2026 |
New Shift Effective From | 23 October 2026 |
The dates above are illustrative; the actual effective date depends on the business-day rules applied by Workstatus. |
Why Is the Change Shift Option Hidden After Scheduling a Change?
Once a shift change has been scheduled for a member, the Change Shift option may no longer be available for that member until the scheduled change takes effect.
This behavior prevents multiple shift changes from being scheduled for the same member simultaneously.
After the new shift becomes effective, the option becomes available again, allowing you to schedule another shift change if required.
