Workstatus Silent App – Windows Installation Guide
1. Purpose
This document provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Workstatus Silent App on Windows and running it in the background.
2. Prerequisites
Before installing the Workstatus Silent App, ensure the following requirements are met:
- Windows system is available and the user has administrator access.
- Workstatus Silent App installation package is available.
- User Token is available.
- If an antivirus or endpoint security application is installed, Workstatus must be added to the antivirus allowlist/exclusion list before installation.

3. Method 1 – Download and Install Workstatus App
Step 1: Download Workstatus App
- Download the Workstatus Silent App: Download Windows Silent App
- Save the downloaded ZIP file to the required location.
Step 2: Extract the Application
- Right-click the downloaded ZIP file.
- Select Extract All.
- Extract the Workstatus application to the required folder.
Step 3: Create the User Token File
- Open the extracted Workstatus application folder.
- Open Command Prompt in the same folder.
- Run the following command: type nul > user_token_file
- A file named user_token_file will be created.
- Open the
user_token_fileusing Notepad. - Paste the User Token provided for the user into the file.
- Save the file.
Note: Make sure the file name is exactly user_token_file and does not have an additional .txt extension.
Step 4: Run Workstatus
- Locate the Workstatus.exe file.
- Right-click Workstatus.exe.
- Select Run as administrator.
Alternatively, you can double-click Workstatus.exe to launch the application.
Step 5: Windows Protection Warning
If Windows displays a protection warning:
- Click More info.
- Click Run anyway.
- Windows will allow the Workstatus application to start.
Note: This warning may appear because Windows SmartScreen does not recognize the application publisher. Verify that the Workstatus application was downloaded from the official/provided source before selecting Run anyway.
Step 6: Verify the Application
- After launching, Workstatus will automatically run in the background.
- No application window needs to remain open.
- Verify that the Workstatus process is running from Task Manager.
- Confirm that the application starts tracking/syncing as expected.
4.Method 2 - Installation via Email Invitation (with ZIP file)
1. Org Owner Action
- The organization owner invites the user in Silent Mode from the dashboard.
- The user will receive an email containing the Silent App ZIP file as an attachment.
STEP 1
Go to People >> Click on Employees>> Invite New Member
STEP 2
You can invite Silent Users below ways .
A) With sending Invitation mail to user
- Enter Email- id, User Role, select invite mode as Silent , **select Send Email while inviting from dropdown ** & Click on Invite button.
2. User Action
- User will receive invite email
- Click on Accept Invite
- You will receive another email containing the Workstatus ZIP file.
- Download and extract the ZIP file to a local folder.
- Locate the app
.exefile inside the extracted folder. - Right-click on the
.exefile → select Run as Administrator. - Windows displays a protection warning: Click More info.
- Click Run anyway.
- The Silent App will start running in the background.






5.Method 3: Invite User Without Email
1. Organization Owner Action
- The Organization Owner sends a Silent Invite to the user with the Send Email Invitation option disabled.
- The user is directly added to the Employee List.
- Go to the Employee List.
- Click the three-dot menu next to the user.
- Select Download Silent App.
- The Workstatus Silent App ZIP file will be downloaded.
- Send the downloaded ZIP file to the user.
2. User Action
- Download the Workstatus ZIP file received from the Organization Owner.
- Extract/Unzip the file.
- Open the extracted Workstatus folder.
- Right-click on the
.exefile and select Run as administrator. - If Windows displays a protection warning, click More info.
- Click Run anyway.
- The Workstatus Silent App will start running in the background.
- No application window is required to remain open.
6. Troubleshooting
Workstatus is blocked by antivirus
Ensure that the Workstatus application and required Workstatus files/folders are added to the antivirus allowlist/exclusion.
Refer to the Workstatus Antivirus Whitelisting Guide for the relevant antivirus product.
Workstatus does not start
- Verify that the User Token is correctly added to
user_token_file. - Verify that the file is located in the same folder as the Workstatus application.
- Run
Workstatus.exeas administrator. - Check whether antivirus or Windows Security is blocking the application.
- Restart the Workstatus application and verify again.
Workstatus is not visible after launching
The Silent App is designed to run in the background, so it may not display a visible application window. Check Task Manager to confirm that the Workstatus process is running.
