How to integrate Google Workspace SSO in Workstatus ?

What is Google Workspace SSO?

Google Workspace SSO (Single Sign-On) is a feature that lets users log in to multiple applications using their Google account credentials — instead of having to remember separate usernames and passwords for each app. for example Let’s say your organization uses Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Calendar).You can connect it to Workstatus using SSO. Then, when you open workstatus website, you just click “Sign in with Google” — and you’re in instantly.


How to Integrate Google Workspace SSO with Workstatus.


Prerequisites

Before starting:

  • You must have Admin access in both Google Workspace and Workstatus.
  • Ensure your Google Workspace users have verified email addresses that match their Workstatus login emails.


Step-by-Step Integration Guide


Step 1: Log in to Google Admin Console


  • Go to : https://admin.google.com
  • Sign in using your Google Workspace admin account.
  • From the dashboard, go to: Apps → Web


Step 2: Add a Custom SAML App


  • Click Add App → Add custom SAML app.
  • Enter: App Name: Workstatus
  • Click Continue


Step 3: Download Google Identity Provider (IdP) Details

Google will display the following:

SSO URL

Entity ID

Certificate (download this file) : Click Download Certificate — you’ll upload it in Workstatus later.

Then click Continue.


Step 4: Enter Workstatus SAML Configuration

Now, enter the following details from Workstatus:


Field Value

SAML Entity ID → https://accounts.google.com/o/xxxxxxxxx

ACS URL (Assertion Consumer Service URL) → https://app.workstatus.io/api/sso/saml/acs

SAML X.509 Certificate → MIIDdDCCAlygAwIxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

SAML IDP SSO URL → https://accounts.google.com/xxxxxxxxxxxxx


Click Continue to proceed.


Step 5: Map User Attributes

Map the following attributes for better user identification:


Google Directory Attribute Workstatus Attribute

Primary Email → email


Click Finish.



Step 6: Enable User Access
  • After the app is created, go to the User Access section.
  • Choose ON for everyone or specific user groups.

This enables SSO for selected users.


Step 7: Configure SSO in Workstatus


  • Log in to Workstatus Admin Dashboard.
  • Navigate to Settings → SSO Integration → Google Workspace (SAML).
  • Enter the details copied from Google:
  • SSO URL
  • Entity ID
  • Upload Certificate (the one downloaded earlier)







Click Save.


Step 8: Test the Connection

Go to the Workstatus login page.

Click “Login with Google SSO.”

Sign in using your Google Workspace account.
